 This film is the musical version of Victor Hugo’s novel, adapted from the long-running theatre production. Set in early 19th century France, the film follows Jean Valjean, a paroled prisoner seeking redemption who is obsessively pursued by police inspector Javert for past deeds. Valjean adopts orphaned Cosette, whose mother was forced into prostitution, and tries to make a better life for them both during socially turbulent times. Nominated for eight Academy Awards, Anne Hathaway won for Best Actress. Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, and Amanda Seyfried also star.
