 Ken Burns’ Jazz: Episode 6: Swing, the Velocity of Celebration (24 min)
This segment of the 90- minute episode begins in 1936. Count Basie arrives in New York City, bringing the signature up tempo blues-influenced sound and unique syncopation he developed playing clubs in Kansas City. After a disastrous first appearance at Roseland Ballroom, he expands his band, which includes legendary sax player Lester Young, and hires Billie Holiday. They spend the next year ˝ performing up and down the East Coast.

International Sweethearts of Rhythm (30 min)
This award-winning documentary tells the little-known story of a multi-racial all-women swing band that became a sensation in the 1940s.

 Special guest and local legend Bob Ojeda will be joining us for this conversation. Bob Ojeda’s early music experience with Big Bands included Stan Kenton, Woody Herman and Buddy rich. Bob also had a long stint with The Count Basie Orchestra from 1985-2001 included backing Frank Sinatra with the Basie Orchestra.
