Pianist Amber Scherer, 16, started taking lessons at age six. After gaining more interest in classical music, she began competing in local, national, and international competitions. Amber has since been awarded prizes in competitions such as the Hope College Young Artists Competition, the ISMTA state finals, and the Missouri-Western University Piano Competition. Most recently, she was a finalist in the Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition. Amber spent her past few summers attending music festivals across the country, including the International Institute for Young Musicians (KS), the Southeastern Piano Festival (SC), the Bowdoin International Music Festival (MA), and the Indiana University Piano Academy summer program (IN). Currently, Amber is homeschooled and studying piano with Professor James Giles at Northwestern University.Library: Skokie Public Library
Cellist Richard Li is a junior at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville. He studies with Gilda Barston as a member of the Academy Program at Music Institute of Chicago and has been selected to attend the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Youth in Music Festival. His piano quartet reached the semifinals at the Fischoff National Chamber Competition this year, and he was first-place winner of the Cello Intermediate Division of Society of Americans Musicians in 2012. Richard enjoys sleeping, dreaming, laughing, being with friends, and opening fans.
