This sports drama focuses mostly on the 1947 baseball season, in which Branch Rickey, the Brooklyn Dodgers General Manager, signed Jackie Robinson to be the first African American to play Major League Baseball. The deal put both men in the firing line of the public and the press. Facing racism from all sides, Robinson followed Rickey's advice to not react in kind.
