History Alive! Meet Ruby Bridges

Event Type: Performance
Age Group(s): Families, Kids
Date: 1/20/2014
Start Time: 4:00 PM
End Time: 5:00 PM
Description:
Have you heard of Ruby Bridges? Do you know her story? Ruby was only six years old in 1960. She was excited to attend a new school for first grade. There was only one problem, the school was a “white only” school and Ruby Bridges was an African American. That year most of the white parents at the school decided keep their children home. Ruby sat in her first grade classroom all alone with her teacher for an entire year. Linda Gorham will tell Ruby’s story and get children engaged with history. Free tickets will be available 30 minutes before the start of the show. This program is ideal for school-age children.
